What makes a password strong?
Length matters more than anything else. Every extra character multiplies the number of possible combinations, so a random 16-character password with letters, numbers and symbols would take a practically impossible amount of time to guess by brute force. Mixing character types helps too, but only if the password is truly random: Summer2026! looks complex but is easy to guess.
Is this generator safe?
Yes. Passwords are created entirely inside your browser using the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), the same secure random source used by password managers. They are never sent over the internet or stored by us.

- Use a different password for every account: if one site is hacked, the others stay safe.
- Store your passwords in a password manager instead of a note on your phone.
- Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for email, banking and social media.
- Use at least 12 characters; 16 or more for important accounts.
What is entropy?
Entropy, measured in bits, estimates how hard a password is to guess. Each bit doubles the number of attempts needed. As a rough guide: under 40 bits is weak, 60 bits is decent, and 80 bits or more is very strong for random passwords.

How long should my password be?
At least 12 characters for everyday accounts and 16 or more for email, banking and anything important.
Why avoid look-alike characters?
Characters like I, l and 1 or O and 0 are easy to confuse when you have to type a password by hand. Avoiding them slightly reduces strength, so add a couple of extra characters.
Do you store the passwords?
No. They exist only on your screen until you copy them. Reloading the page erases them.
