- X is what percent of Y? Divide X by Y and multiply by 100. Example: 30 is 25% of 120.
- Percentage change. Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. Example: from 50 to 65 is a 30% increase.
- Add or subtract a percentage. Multiply by (1 + X/100) to add or by (1 − X/100) to subtract. Example: a price of 200 with a 25% discount is 150; with 16% tax it is 232.

Common trap: a 50% increase followed by a 50% decrease does not bring you back to the start. 100 + 50% = 150, but 150 − 50% = 75.
